The Best Golf Courses on the Olympic Peninsula — A Local’s Guide

The Best Golf Courses on the Olympic Peninsula — A Local’s Guide

If you love golf and you’re thinking about buying a home on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, I have wonderful news. This region is one of the best-kept secrets in Pacific Northwest golf. From Sequim’s sun-drenched fairways to Port Ludlow’s forested championship layout, the Olympic Peninsula offers a remarkable range of golf courses that would make any golfer proud to call this place home.

I’m Jane Carhart, a real estate broker serving Sequim, Port Townsend, Port Angeles, and Port Ludlow. When my buyers ask me what makes daily life here so special, golf is always part of the conversation. So let me take you on a tour of my favorite courses — starting with my personal favorite.

The Cedars at Dungeness — Sequim, WA

My personal favorite, and the one I recommend to every golfer who visits.

If you only play one golf course on the Olympic Peninsula, make it this one. The Cedars at Dungeness is a 6,600-yard championship 18-hole course with a 4-star rating from Golf Digest. It sits at 1965 Woodcock Road in Sequim, and it is as beautiful as it is enjoyable to play.

Dungeness earns the title of the driest round of golf in Western Washington — with just 13 inches of annual rainfall compared to Seattle’s 38 inches, Palm Springs’ 17 inches, or Pebble Beach’s 27 inches. That rain shadow magic means you can play here year-round in conditions that golfers elsewhere in Western Washington can only dream about.

Designed by Jack Reimer in 1970, the course plays to a par of 72 with a rating of 70.9 and a slope of 124, offering a fair and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The signature hole is the par-5 3rd, where a series of bunkers are arranged in the shape of a Dungeness crab — a feature that delights first-timers and regulars alike. The course also features sprawling bunkers throughout and narrow approaches to elevated greens that keep every round interesting.

The facility includes a 15-stall driving range, chipping green, practice putting green, state-of-the-art club fitting equipment, video swing analysis, and quick turnaround club repair. Stymie’s Bar & Grill offers great burgers, sandwiches, and steaks with 10 beers on tap. The Double Eagle Steak and Seafood restaurant rounds out the dining options with an extensive wine list and stunning views of the Olympic Mountains.

Dungeness has hosted the Washington State Senior Open since 2007 — a testament to the quality and prestige of this course. I live right in the neighborhood, and I can tell you firsthand there is no better place to spend a sunny Sequim morning.

Sunland Golf & Country Club — Sequim, WA

Sunland is one of the most beloved courses in Sequim — a true community institution that locals return to again and again.

Originally opened as a nine-hole course in 1971, Sunland added its second nine a few years later and opened its doors to the public in 2009. The layout was designed by A.V. Macan, who contributed several notable courses throughout the Pacific Northwest including Firecrest in Tacoma and Broadmoor in Seattle.

The 18-hole course stretches to 6,319 yards at a par of 72, with a course rating of 70.4 and a slope of 120. Sunland is known for its plush fairways and well-manicured greens. The layout can be challenging if hitting straight isn’t your strong suit — landing areas are quite narrow, with homes and cedar trees throughout the course that demand accuracy off the tee.

The practice facilities are among the best on the Olympic Peninsula, including an expansive outdoor driving range with grass tees and a 6,000-square-foot putting green adjacent to the first tee. PGA professional Troy Rodvold offers private lessons and instruction for golfers of all skill levels. Fire & Stein serves sandwiches, burgers, and rotating Northwest-inspired entrées for lunch and early dinner, with local beer and wine on tap and patio tables overlooking the 18th green.

For anyone considering a home in the Sequim area, Sunland is also a residential community — meaning some lucky homeowners can practically walk to the first tee. It’s one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town, and I’m happy to show you what’s available there.

Peninsula Golf Club — Port Angeles, WA

Peninsula Golf Club is celebrating its centennial in 2026 — 100 years of golf, community, and tradition in Port Angeles. That kind of history tells you everything about how deeply woven into this community the sport of golf really is.

Located on the east side of Port Angeles, Peninsula Golf Club is a semi-private club offering 18 holes of challenging yet rewarding golf. The course has a tree-lined setting with beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with championship tees measuring approximately 6,400 yards at a par of 72.

The greens are a particular highlight — smooth and tilting toward the harbor, which adds a break you can see but still need to learn. Elevation changes are gentle, making it comfortable for walkers, and the club offers a covered driving range, a full pro shop, and year-round play.

Peninsula Golf Club is also a Youth on Course partner, meaning junior golfers 18 and under can play a round for $5 or less — a wonderful detail for families considering a move to the Port Angeles area.

Port Ludlow Golf Course — Port Ludlow, WA

For golfers who love a scenic, strategic challenge, Port Ludlow Golf Course is one of the finest layouts on the entire Olympic Peninsula.

Designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Muir Graves, Port Ludlow offers a spectacular natural setting with rolling fairways, abundant wildlife, historic logging stumps, and incredible views of Hood Canal, Ludlow Bay, and both the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.

The 18-hole championship course stretches to 6,861 yards from the longest tees at a par of 72 and opened in 1975. The course winds through dense coastal forest, opening at times to water and mountain views, with greens sitting in natural amphitheaters framed by trees and bunkers. Several holes bring ponds or inlets close enough to genuinely shape your game plan.

Golf Magazine has named Port Ludlow one of the top five public courses in Washington State — high praise that is thoroughly deserved. If you’re exploring real estate in Port Ludlow, waking up a short drive from this course is one of the great lifestyle benefits of that beautiful community.

Discovery Bay Golf Club — Near Port Townsend, WA

Discovery Bay Golf Club holds a distinction that sets it apart from every other course on this list — or in the entire state, for that matter.

Discovery Bay Golf Course, formerly called Chevy Chase, is the oldest public golf course in the State of Washington, with a rich history and simple rural charm. Located on the shores of Discovery Bay, five miles south of the historic Victorian port city of Port Townsend, the course features unspoiled panoramic views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains and the pristine waters of Discovery Bay.

The front nine — known as the “farm nine” — is the original nine holes carved out of a farm pasture, which opened in May 1925. The back nine, called the “forest nine,” was built into the heavily forested hill above the front nine and opened 72 years later in 1997. The result is a course of two distinct personalities — the front nine open and walkable, the back nine wooded and hilly with dramatic elevation changes that reward strategic play.

The course plays to 6,641 yards at a par of 72, with a rating of 71.0 and a slope of 124. Practice facilities include the only covered driving range on the Olympic Peninsula — a genuine advantage in the Pacific Northwest. Green fees are among the most affordable in the region, and the course welcomes dogs, making it a favorite for golfers who like to bring their four-legged companions along for the walk.

For buyers exploring homes for sale near Port Townsend, Discovery Bay adds yet another reason to love this corner of the Peninsula.

SkyRidge Golf Course — Sequim, WA

SkyRidge is Sequim’s friendly neighborhood course — family owned, relaxed, and perfect for golfers who want a fun round without the formality.

SkyRidge is a unique links-style ten-hole golf course with an extra finishing hole for 18-hole rounds. Playing two different sets of tees gives golfers 20 to 30 yards of difference in length per hole, and the course is located in the picturesque Dungeness Valley in Sequim. The course also has a driving range, a PGA-certified pro available for lessons, and a restaurant and bar on site for food and drinks after your round. Green fees are among the most affordable in the area, making SkyRidge a wonderful choice for regular play, beginners, and families introducing kids to the game.
